WELCOME TO ROMEO'S RESCUE OF WI

Romeo's Rescue of Wisconsin is a foster-based, 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to rescuing, fostering, and rehoming dogs, with a special focus on German Shepherds and Shepherd mixes. Our mission is to give every dog a second chance through compassionate care, responsible placement, and the time they need to heal, trust, and thrive in a loving forever home.

MEET
BRUNO

Bruno came to us from Texas after we learned that his time was running out on the euthanasia list. Bruno had previously been part of a family with seven German Shepherds, and unfortunately, circumstances led to the family having to part with two of their dogs. Bruno eventually found himself in the shelter and in need of a second chance.

When we learned about Bruno and knew we had the ability to help, we said yes.

When Bruno arrived, he was pretty thin and needed some extra care to help get him back to a healthy weight, along with addressing a few other needs along the way.

Today, Bruno is doing very well in our care and continues to make wonderful progress. He truly is a gentle giant. He is incredibly sweet, has done well with children and other dogs, and we believe he will make an amazing addition to the right family.

Bruno is expected to be available for adoption sometime in October. Until then, we’ll continue giving him the time, care, and love he needs to be ready for his forever home.

Interested in Bruno? Please fill out our adoption form. We will review applications and contact potential adopters when Bruno is ready. If we believe you may be the right match for him, we’ll reach out to discuss the next steps and schedule a meet and greet.

Happy Tails

BAXTER

Adopted • May 2026 • Age 8 Months

Baxter was the very first dog welcomed into Romeo's Rescue of Wisconsin. Found as a young puppy in a drainage ditch in Texas, Baxter's journey began with uncertainty.

When Baxter arrived in Wisconsin, he was very timid, nervous, and unsure of the world around him. We knew he needed time, patience, and understanding. Rather than rushing the process, we focused on helping him build trust and confidence at his own pace. Day by day, Baxter began to come out of his shell, learning that people could be kind and that he was finally safe.

Over the next three months, we watched him grow into a playful, loving young dog. While he still had a little bit of nervousness when he left, he had come so far from the scared puppy who first arrived.

At just 8 months old, Baxter found his forever home with a wonderful family committed to continuing his journey. Watching him leave was bittersweet, but seeing him walk into a life filled with love made it all worthwhile.

As Romeo's Rescue's very first rescue dog, Baxter will always hold a special place in our hearts. He reminded us that healing takes time, trust must be earned, and every dog deserves a second chance.

PARKER

Adopted • July 2026 • Age 2 yrs

Before Baxter left for his forever home, we made him a promise: we would go back and help one of his friends from Texas.

As a fun way to choose, we wrote the names of several dogs on separate pieces of paper and let Baxter decide. Without hesitation, he walked over and picked Parker's name. From that moment on, we knew Parker was the one we were meant to bring home.

When Parker arrived at our rescue, his tail was wagging from the very first day. He was curious about everything, full of energy, and always happy. His tail truly never seemed to stop wagging.

He had the blue-black tongue that reflected his classic Chow Chow heritage, adding to his one-of-a-kind charm and unique personality.

Parker adapted quickly to rescue life and did wonderfully with other dogs and children. His friendly, affectionate nature made it clear he was ready to find the forever home he deserved.

Today, Parker is thriving in his forever home and loving life. He enjoys staying active, exploring the outdoors, and going on nature walks with his family. We couldn't be happier for him and are so grateful he found the perfect place to call home.

Bradley

Foster to Adopt • Age 10 months

Bradley came to us from Texas. While he is a Lab mix and we are primarily a German Shepherd rescue, sometimes a dog crosses our path who simply needs someone to say yes.

Bradley was running out of time on the euthanasia list, and when we learned we had an opportunity to help save his life through a foster-to-adopt placement, we couldn’t turn away.

So, we made an exception. Because at the end of the day, when we have the space, the resources, and the right home waiting, saving a life is what matters most.

When Bradley arrived, he was a bit underweight, so we worked to help him regain a healthy weight while giving him the care and love he deserved. He was also a little unsure of the world around him, but with patience, kindness, and consistency, he began to come out of his shell.

Day by day, Bradley has built trust and confidence. Watching him grow more comfortable, curious, and affectionate has been incredibly rewarding. Every small step forward was a reminder that sometimes all a dog needs is a safe place, a little patience, and someone who believes in them.

Bradley is currently in his foster-to-adopt home and is doing incredibly well!

He is making great strides, continuing to grow in confidence, and settling into life with his foster-to-adopt family. We are so happy to see the progress he is making and are hopeful this will be the perfect match and the beginning of his happily ever after.

Keep going, Bradley! We are so proud of you.
